Adding a second hard disc in Windows
If Windows is already running (this is Windows 2000 or Windows XP we're talking about), and you install the drive as a secondary drive, after any necessary drivers are installed, you will need to initialize the disk, otherwise you won't be able to see it.
Carry out the following procedure in order to add the second disc drive:- Right-click your My Computer icon and click Manage.
- Click on Storage, and then Disk Management
- In here, you will see the new drive (you won't see it in My Computer yet, this is why we are here)
- Click on it, and then initialize the disk
- Create a partition on it, and then format the disk (Disk Manager will prompt you to do this as a part of the partitioning sequence)
- Disk Manager will then assign a drive letter and your drive is now ready for use
